Camino #1 – Pilgrims for PAWS-PATAS
In April 2025, Helen Munro, one of our committed volunteers, undertook the first stage of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage alongside her friend Karen. In conjunction with this personal challenge, they launched a fundraising initiative entitled Camino #1 – Pilgrims for PAWS-PATAS in support of us.
“We are walking the first stage of the Camino de Santiago at the end of April. This journey has long been on my personal ‘to-do’ list, and now seems the perfect time to begin.
Karen, in her characteristic display of friendship, loyalty, and joyful spontaneity, readily agreed to join me on this adventure.
We are personally covering all expenses for the trip; however, we hope to raise funds in support of a charity I volunteer with here in Spain. For over a year, I have been actively involved with PAWS-PATAS, contributing weekly at the dog shelter.
The organisation carries out vital work in rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming abandoned dogs and cats. Every donation—no matter the amount—goes directly towards improving the lives of these deserving animals.
How they would love to be walking the Camino with us! By raising funds, Karen and I hope to play a small part in supporting this invaluable cause.
You can learn more about the animals, the funding needs, and how donations are allocated by visiting: www.paws-patas.org/about.”
Fundraising Update – 4 May 2025
“Warmest congratulations to our volunteer Helen, and her friend Karen, for completing the first stage of the Camino de Santiago and raising an impressive 1,767.28 € in support of PAWS-PATAS.
It would be wonderful to help them reach their target of 2,000 €—they are now just 232.72 € away from this milestone.
Every contribution, no matter how small, will help them reach this goal and stands as a testament to the commitment, physical effort, and planning they undertook to support our work with abandoned animals.
Donations may be made via their fundraising page.
This is a remarkable achievement. We encourage them to rest and recover—and we look forward to hearing about their next adventure in support of our cause.”
