Fundraising with Heart: UK Support Blossoms for PAWS-PATAS

On Tuesday, 17th June, long-time supporters Kim Reeder and her husband Ray generously presented a donation of €1,500 to Babs Williams (President) and Susan Bolland (Treasurer) in support of PAWS-PATAS.

For the past eight years, Kim and Ray have spent several months each winter in Mojácar and have consistently shown their dedication to the charity. From transporting pet food and supplies to attending key fundraising events such as the New Year’s Day Swim, their commitment has been unwavering.

Following the passing of their beloved dog in 2023, Kim and Ray dedicated time during their stay in January 2024 to walking the dogs at the shelter twice a week. This coincided with a particularly challenging period for PAWS-PATAS, as we welcomed a large number of animals from a rescue centre in Antas, which had recently been closed down by Seprona. The experience of getting to know the dogs, our team leaders, and fellow volunteers gave Kim and Ray a deeper insight into the day-to-day work and urgent needs of the charity.

Reflecting on her motivation to help from abroad, Kim shared:
“I’d often hear people say, ‘I wish I could do more, but I’m only on holiday.’ So I thought—what do I do at home? I garden. A plant sale seemed like the perfect way to raise much-needed funds for PAWS-PATAS.”

Their fundraising efforts in the UK have been remarkable. Last year, they raised €800 through plant sales, including a personal contribution. This year, they surpassed that, handing over an impressive €1,500.

Kim noted the invaluable support she’s received from her local community and credited her “right-hand woman and partner in crime” for helping bring the events to life—emphasising the importance of accepting help and working as a team.

In an incredibly generous gesture, Kim has also offered to support others who wish to fundraise for PAWS-PATAS in the UK and is happy to provide guidance over the phone.

We are deeply grateful to Kim and Ray for their continued dedication, generosity, and willingness to go the extra mile for the animals in our care.

Thank you both for making a real difference.
